The TV Tower at Alexanderplatz is, at 368 meters, the tallest structure in Germany and visible from almost anywhere in the city. Built in 1969 in East Germany, it has been an unmistakable Berlin landmark ever since. The observation level sits at around 200 meters, with the slowly revolving Sphere restaurant above it.
From the observation deck the view on a clear day reaches far across the city and into the surrounding region, with reference points like the Brandenburg Gate, the bend of the Spree and the prefab housing blocks of the east. A timed-entry ticket booked in advance is a good idea for the elevator up, as there can be waits in fine weather. In the restaurant the floor makes one full turn in about an hour.
At the base lies the busy Alexanderplatz with its World Clock, shopping centers and excellent transit connections. The tower is especially rewarding at sunset, when the city is bathed in warm light. If you would rather not go up, simply enjoy the tower as a landmark from below.
