Mauerpark
A popular park on the former Wall strip, with a flea market and karaoke on Sundays.
Mauerpark, between Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding, lies on part of the former border strip of the Berlin Wall. What was once the death strip has become a lively park that turns into a meeting point for Berliners and visitors, especially on Sundays. A preserved section of the hinterland wall now serves as a canvas for graffiti.
Mauerpark is famous above all for its large Sunday flea market with secondhand goods, street food and crafts, and for the summertime "Bearpit" karaoke, where the brave sing in front of a big crowd. On fine days the meadows fill with picnic blankets, musicians and groups spending the day outdoors. The atmosphere is young, colorful and relaxed.
During the week the park is much quieter and good for an ordinary stroll. It is easy to reach near the boundary between Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding. If you want to experience the classic Berlin Sunday feeling, come on the weekend, but expect plenty of people.
