Open-Air Cinema
Movies under the open sky on balmy summer evenings, from June to August at dozens of venues across the city.
As soon as the summer evenings turn long and warm, Berlin moves the movies outdoors. From June through August, more than a dozen open-air cinemas screen new releases, classics and original-language films under the stars. Popular venues include the Freiluftkino Friedrichshain in the Volkspark, the screen in the Hasenheide park in Neukölln and the setup on the grounds of the Kulturforum.
Most venues pair the film with beer-garden logistics: deck chairs, food trucks and a drink you carry to your seat, which turns the screening into a full summer evening rather than just a movie. Tickets usually run between eight and twelve euros depending on the venue, and a blanket or a jacket is a good idea even in July, since it cools off fast once the sun is down. If you want films in their original language with German subtitles rather than dubbed, Friedrichshain and Neukölln are the districts to check first.
